Archibald McGibbon MCLAURIN (Lieutenant Colonel)

Died of Illness Cemetery or Memorial: Beirut British War Cemetery, Syria Camden Grammar School Roll of Honour Father: Robert McGibbon MCLAURIN (1827 - 1874) Mother: Helen TAYLOR (1833 - 1890) Archibald was educated at Camden Grammar School. His occupation was Vigneron when he enlisted 3 October 1914 at Rutherglen, Victoria and served with the 8th Light Horse Regiment. Archibald had served in the Victorian Mounted Rifles from 1900 to 1904 and the Australian Light Horse from 1904 to his date of enlistment. His next of kin was his brother Robert McGibbon McLaurin, Curnalla Vineyard, Rutherglen, Victoria (his parents were deceased) Archibald departed Melbourne on the 'Anglo Egyptian' 12 February 1915 and arrived at Gallipoli 15 May where he was wounded on 7 August 1915. He also served in Palestine where he suffered a broken collar bone when his horse fell at Belah on 17 April 1917. In 1917 he was mentioned in despatches for gallant and distinguished conduct in the field (gazetted 6th July 1917). Lieutenant Colonel Archibald McGibbon MCLAURIN died of broncho-pneumonia at the 74th Casualty Clearing Station, Palestine on 23 Nov 1918 age 51. |
